The First Start

Today we heard her for the first time, lovely.

It was a bit of a struggle, i’ll admit….

The smoke around the engine is just excess paint etc burning away.

Notice the blond moment at the beginning….[slight miss-calculation of which position the kill switch was in..]

Getting The Big Bits On

It’s been quite a while now! As projects go, this one is fairly easy going, although nearly finished now :)
Today we managed to get the electrics finished, get the tank and side panels on and assembled the headlight.

Putting The Engine Back In The Frame

She will be a completely standard DR400S, with the exception of the SP400 engine (which I painted myself).

I got the frame and swing arm back last Sunday. The job was £60 and worth every penny. Me and my dad put the engine in and started to assemble the electronics.

I still need to get a few parts, shocks, front mudguard etc, so I’ll be searching around at the next classic bike show. I want the bike to look at good as possible, so ill have as many new parts as i  can find.

I think i’m going to get the wheels rebuilt with stainless spokes so that they look nice and shiny. I need to get the petrol tank repaired and repainted aswell as it has a dent in it.

My baby so far…

Parts that i still need:

  • Front mudgaurd (white)
  • Clocks (tacho and speedo)
  • Seat cover
  • Rear indicator
  • Heat sheild for front of exhaust (downpipe)
  • English spec headlight glass
  • Rear shocks
  • Mirrors

Parts Arrived!

Its been a while since my last post, so this is whats happened.

I ordered my parts and after a month! I finally received them. There was no tank, the side pannels were black (i ordered white) and the front mudguard was silver! I was not that amused, especially after such a long wait. It turns out that the tank, pannels and white mudgaurd are no longer possible to obtain! So, i sent the mudguard back and kept the black side parts.

So, things to do:

  • Have tank restored
  • Get frame and swing arm painted
  • Get the bike back togther!

.
Parts that i still need:

  • Front mudgaurd (white)
  • Clocks (tacho and speedo)
  • Seat cover
  • Rear indicator
  • Heat sheild for front of exhaust (downpipe)
  • English spec headlight glass
  • Rear shocks
  • Mirrors

We will get there eventually :)

Parts Ordered

On saturday (yesterday) i ordered a few parts from CMSNL.com . Ive ordered the side pannels in white, a new steering lock, the headlight rim/ring/ring mounting. I couldn’t get the glass in english spec. Also on the way is a new rubber band to hold my battery in! And a new tank in white. I worked out that it was cheaper to buy a new tank than to have mine restored….+ ill have a spare. Finally, ive ordered a new front mudguard. I enquired and they sent me a new part number. :D

The site was very easy to use, so ill let you know how i get on with them. So far so good.

Note: I need a new rear left indicator, mirrors, clocks (speedo and tacho), rear shocks, seat cover and headlight glass in english spec.

Hoping to get the indicator, shocks and mirrors from the classic mechanics show coming up. More info on that on the discussion board, under ‘Events’.
